2. Summary
- CouchMate contains no advertising, analytics or tracking services.
- Smart home data is loaded directly from Apple Home or your selected CouchMate Core and Home Assistant instance.
- Credentials are stored exclusively in the Apple TV Keychain.
- Device states, dashboard data and camera snapshots remain in memory.
3. Direct connection to CouchMate Core and Home Assistant
CouchMate uses the local network and, optionally, an external address that you enter to discover and reach your CouchMate Core or Home Assistant instance. The app loads device, room, state, weather and configuration data, displays it on Apple TV and sends commands that you trigger directly to that instance.
Processing on the Home Assistant or CouchMate Core installation you operate is governed by its configuration and the privacy terms that apply to it.
4. Apple Home and cameras
If you explicitly enable Apple Home, CouchMate uses Apple’s HomeKit interface to access the homes, rooms, devices and states available to the Apple TV user. CouchMate stores only the identifier of the selected home locally. Device states and camera snapshots are processed in memory, are not written to persistent storage and are not transferred to CouchMate Core or the developer.
Access to Apple Home is managed by tvOS. You can revoke it at any time in Apple TV Settings.
5. Weather data through Apple WeatherKit
If CouchMate Core provides a weather location but no suitable weather data, CouchMate may send the corresponding location coordinates to Apple WeatherKit to retrieve current weather information. Demo mode uses only a fixed sample location. Weather data is held temporarily in memory. Apple’s privacy terms also apply.
6. Local storage
The server address, client ID and access token are stored exclusively in the local tvOS Keychain using a device-bound protection class. CouchMate also stores local preferences such as the selected home and display options. Dashboard data, device states and camera snapshots are not stored permanently.
7. Sharing, tracking and legal bases
CouchMate does not transmit smart home data to the developer or advertising partners and contains no advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs. Data is processed only by the smart home instance you select and, when the corresponding features are used, within Apple system services such as HomeKit or WeatherKit.
Where the controller processes personal data, this is done to provide the app features you requested under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR, on the basis of your voluntary consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR, or to maintain a secure and functional service under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.
8. Deletion and withdrawal
Choosing “Disconnect” removes the saved CouchMate Core credentials. Local app settings are deleted when you remove the app. You can also manage or revoke access to Apple Home and the local network in Apple TV Settings.
9. Your rights
Where the legal requirements are met, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. You may withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
10. Effective date and changes
Effective: August 15, 2026. This policy replaces the previous CouchMate privacy page and will be updated if the app changes materially.
