Requirements, first steps and answers for discovery, backups, templates and local-network access.

First connection
Three steps to your display.
01
Prepare the display
Install and start ShellyElevate on the Wall Display. Its local configuration API must be reachable on port 8080.
02
Allow access
Connect both devices to the same network. On supported Apple systems, allow ElevateMate to access the local network when prompted.
03
Search or add
Start network discovery. If the display is not found automatically, add its IP address or local host name manually.
Frequently asked questions
No display is found automatically
ElevateMate scans active private IPv4 networks. Networks with more than 254 host addresses are limited to the local /24 range, and it checks port 8080. Make sure the Apple device and Wall Display are on the same Wi-Fi or Ethernet network. Guest networks, client isolation, VPNs, a different subnet or a firewall can block discovery. Add the display address manually if it is reachable but outside the scanned range.
Local-network access was denied
On iPhone or iPad, open Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network and enable ElevateMate. On newer macOS versions, use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network. Then return to ElevateMate and try again.
The address is reachable, but ElevateMate rejects the device
ElevateMate validates the response before saving a device. Confirm that ShellyElevate is installed, running and serving its configuration API on port 8080. Another web service at that address is intentionally not accepted.
Why does ElevateMate recommend a trusted network?
The current ShellyElevate API uses unencrypted HTTP without authentication on the local network. Settings — including credentials configured on the display — can therefore travel as plain text between your devices. Do not use the app on an untrusted or shared network.
A batch run skips settings or fails for one display
ElevateMate filters templates by model capabilities and skips unsupported values. It creates a backup before changing each display, applies settings to no more than four devices at once and reads changed values back. Open the affected device, check that it is online and review the reported error before retrying.
iCloud Backup is unavailable
Check that iCloud Drive and iCloud Keychain are enabled for the same Apple Account and that ElevateMate is permitted to use iCloud. The app remains fully usable with its encrypted local library when iCloud Backup is disabled.
What happens when I export JSON?
The exported settings file is not encrypted. If it contains a recognised credential such as an MQTT password or voice-assistant token, ElevateMate shows an additional warning. Choose a trusted destination, do not send credentials to support and delete copies you no longer need.
Can I try ElevateMate without a display?
Yes. Open Settings and start Demo Mode. It uses only fictional local data and does not access hardware, your local network or iCloud.
Please include your Apple platform and OS version, the ElevateMate version, the Wall Display model, the ShellyElevate version and the steps leading to the problem. Never send passwords, unencrypted exports or a complete configuration unless they are strictly required and you have removed sensitive values.
ElevateMate has no advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs. Device communication stays on your local network; optional backups use your private iCloud. Read the complete ElevateMate Privacy Policy.
